5 things i’ve learned in my first year as a small business owner

1. Your value is in the need you fulfill for your clients
- Let this inform your decisions and remember this on rainy days!

2. It’s true that if you’re clear on who you are and what you provide, the “right” clients will find you! Just be patient.

- Let me preface by saying, I believe Pilates is for everybody. I work with all kinds of people at all stages of life and fitness, yet they all share a willingness to try new things, a commitment to bettering their health, an appreciation for precision, and a holistic view of themselves.

3. Have a business plan
- Consider sustainability, location/cultural context, and best and worst possible scenarios. Know what risks you’re taking. Research and reach out to contacts before you open and along the way.

4. Reevaluate processes, performance, etc., and adjust as needed
- For the purpose of better serving clients!

5. Set clear boundaries
- Communicate clearly, and when needed, hold or create boundaries. I believe in generosity, while keeping parameters in place to protect and care for myself and others.
